Aspirations...

The distinguishing feature between other living species and mankind is the overwhelming power of thought and the drive to strive for the best... with absolutely no doubt, man has been the most ambitious creature on earth... There is nothing wrong with it but there is a caveat! In this process of reaching for the stars he simply forgets that there are others around him also looking at stars with lustful eyes desiring them. Some are privileged and the red carpet is laid at their feet, by fate. For some it is a fantasy that seems like a mirage in a vast desert.

So the crucial question is, how can we accomplish our mission without entering a ceaseless race overriding each other... search for success; is it simply a rat race? Or does success means making the world a level playing field for all of us to succeed together? This shouldn’t seem like utopia…we can make it a reality... success should be contemplated based on win- win situations and not on win-loose situations. We should walk the distance hand in hand collectively as nations and regions. People from diverse races, casts, religions, and nationalities should step forward transcending all barriers…it should be a collective and integrated effort... This way, eventually individuals will flourish and the entire world will prosper...

The idea of launching Aspirations Youth Club was to create a space where all of us could start embarking on this mission... A space to realize all our aspirations collectively supporting each other, a space that will inspire and motivate us to do our best and help the rest to do their best, a space to teach us how beautiful it’ll be to be happy at other’s success and breathe in the wonder of altruistic joy, a space to experience how nice it will be to be looked after and cared for, learning the splendor of being dependent while being independent... We believe in such a space, where sense of competition, jealousy and selfishness will vanish into thin air... There is an alternate path to achieve success and it ‘s time we respect it...

Together, we invite you to make the best use of all opportunities this has to offer… There is no hierarchy in the club; ideas will take precedence over individuals... It is your club and if you wish to explore, sky will be the limit...

Beach Rugby Carnival...

The fine weather had sighs of relief from all members as the day dawned. It was time for the much-awaited beach rugby carnival to kick off.

After much meticulous planning by the members of the Aspirations Youth Club, the Mount Lavinia beach was booked, the Rugby teams finalized, the referees confirmed, and the weather gods were being uncharacteristically generous!

At 3pm, the first match took place between two higher education institutes, while scores of spectators watched on.
The afternoon just whizzed past, as enthusiastic teams took on the challenge, as we saw game after game unfold.

By around 6pm, the day’s labour had been done. The sunset seemed rewarding as the quarter finals, semi finals and the finals took place with eager spectators cheering on their teams. King’s youth club emerged winners of the event, with APIIT as runners up, and Royal College Colombo coming in third.

The event indeed proved to be a fun-filled evening with a deeper significance to it, as the funds obtained from it were to finance a Medical Camp, also sponsored by The Aspirations Youth Club, with saw over 1,000 patients in a remote village in Kalutara being treated.

The Beach Rugby Carnival owed its presence to its sponsors. The South Australian Institute Of Business Technology (SAIBT) took a lead role in providing the main sponsorship for the event while the event was Co-Sponsored by Achievers Institute Of Higher Education And Aspirations Education (The parent organization of The Youth Club), ICFAI educational institute, Sampath Bank, ACBT, Standard Charted Bank and Louis Preston institute were the other sponsors who made this event a reality.

The event finally came to a close at around 7.30 pm, with the triumphant winners walking away with trophies and valuable cash prizes and concluding yet another project done by The Aspirations Youth Club.

Medical Camp...

The first corporate social responsibility project launched by the aspirations youth club took place on the 27th august at Anandarama temple in heenatiyangala, a remote village in the Kalutara district. This venue humbly boasted of its first ever medical camp which treated over 1000 patient plagued by various illnesses.

One of the many highlights of this medical camp was the participation of the Deputy Director of the Maharagama Cancer Hospital Dr. Neelamani Paranagama, former judge Mr. Paranagama. Amila and Niroshi Paranagama took the initiative among other committed members of the youth club to ensure success of this medical camp.

The cancer control unit of the Maharagama hospital was also present at the venue, enabling villagers in this remote hamletto carry out mammograms, papsymeres, etc. a cancer awareness programme was also conducted on this day.

The medical camp also saw the active participation of an optician who conducted eye examinations on a large number of patients, as well as 3 other doctors who arrived from Colombo to be a part of this endeavour.

The event drew in hoardes of villagers who were thankful that their village was the chosen one!

Most importantly, the event brought together many races and ethnicities as youth club members watched on as Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim villagers trickled in to relieve their woes.
